What's in Our San Jose Water?

Know What You're Putting Into Your Body to Stay As Healthy As Can Be!

The water situation here in San Jose is very unique. We're fortunate to have three different sources: groundwater, imported water and local mountain supplies. This is great for a continuous supply, but also amplifies the likelihood of contamination.

Do you know what's really in your water?

A simple glance shows traces of N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), Perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS) and Perfluorooctyl Sulfonate (PFOS). What are these? They are man-made chemicals used to produce liquid rocket fuel, to manufacture high-performance plastics, to create Teflon and a bunch of other consumer products.

In 2019 SJW sampled and analyzed its groundwater and detected Perfluoroalkylated Substances (PFAS) in some of the wells. They closed down two wells but still don't have a great solution on solving it.

All of these chemicals are byproducts of industrialization and causes serious health issues.

There's a bunch of other stuff in our water supply, check it out for yourself here in SJWater's annual report.

Our Solution

Typical Contaminant Reduction -- 93% to 99.99%

We filter our water supply thru a 6 stage filtration process to remove as many impurities as possible. It utilizes 3 carbon and sediment blocks to remove dirt, sand, rust, chlorine, chloramine, lead and cysts. The water is then forced thru a Reverse Osmosis to further purify the water. It leaves thru a carbon post filter to refine and enhance the taste and smell of the water.

I know this sounds excessive and bat crazy to be watering my plants this way. But put it this way:

If you don't drink from the tap (and you shouldn't now that you know what's in the water), then why would my microgreens?

Think about this for a moment: veggies are made of 90% water by weight, so you're going to be eventually consuming that water. Gross!

We use non-GMO seeds, don't use pesticides or chemical fertilizers, so why not go the extra mile and filter out the gunk in our water. I feed my family these produce as well so it's very important to me and that's why I take the extra step.

Effective for PFOA / PFAS and thousands of others contaminants
